Dialing Instructions

Telephones are to be used only for official business calls.

Campus Calls

  1. Refer to your campus telephone directory for the number.
  2. Listen for the dial tone.
  3. Dial the four-digit extension number.

Local Calls (Off Campus)

  1. Refer to the Buffalo telephone directory for the number.
  2. Listen for the dial tone.
  3. Dial "9" or "8" if the line is toll restricted; wait for a second dial tone.
  4. Dial the local telephone number.
    (Note: Local calls are charged based on the length of the call.)

Long-Distance Calls

  1. Listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial "9" or "8" if the line is toll restricted; wait for a second dial tone.
  3. Dial "1" plus area code, plus telephone number.

Campus Directory Assistance

  1. Listen for the dial tone.
  2. Dial "4000" for the campus operator.

To transfer a call to a third party:

Depress Switchhook/Recall or Flash Button; listen for special dial tone. Dial third party; listen for ringing phone. Either: Hang up, or wait for an answer; announce that call and hang up. If third number is busy or does not answer, depress Switchhook/Recall or Flash Button twice to be reconnected to original party.

Voice Mail

Access your voicemail from on campus

  1. Dial x3232
  2. Enter your password (default password is the last four digits of your telephone number)
  3. Follow the prompts to listen to your messages

Access your voicemail from off campus

  1. Dial 878-3232
  2. Hit # key
  3. Enter your mailbox number  (Your mailbox number is your 10 digit telephone number.  Ex. 716878XXXX)
  4. Enter your password
  5. Follow the prompts to listen to your messages
