Where Can I Post Flyers or Signage in Butler Library?
Answer
Where is signage allowed in Butler Library?
Posting signage (flyers, posters, banners, etc.) is only permitted on the designated bulletin boards located in the StudyQuad.
Are there specific requirements for posting signage?
Yes. All signage must:
- Include the name and contact information of the individual or organization posting it
- Be no larger than 11" x 17"
- Avoid offensive or discriminatory language or images
- Be posted in a way that does not damage surfaces or leave adhesive residue
What happens if signage does not follow the policy?
Butler Library reserves the right to remove any signage that does not comply with these guidelines. Materials may also be removed when they are outdated or when space is needed for newer postings. Priority is given to postings from student organizations, campus departments, and Buffalo State–affiliated groups.
Is the library responsible for posted materials?
No. Butler Library is not responsible for any damage that may occur to signage while it is displayed.
Where are the approved posting locations?
- Community Bulletin Board (StudyQuad lounge): Open to all postings that meet policy requirements
- Framed Displays: Reserved for library-approved exhibits; contact library staff for more information
Why does the library have a signage policy?
This policy helps maintain a clean, organized, and damage-free environment. It also ensures compliance with SUNY and broader campus policies, including those related to freedom of speech.
Are there additional posting policies I should know about?
Yes. Please refer to the campus-wide policy on posting signage for more details.
